MAC

Membership Information

Note: Coinciding with the fiscal year, memberships were due by July 1, 2011.  See below for information on renewing membership or becoming a new member.

What are the benefits of being a MAC member?

Joining MAC is a great way to become more involved in animal welfare, to meet others who are doing similar work, to make friends and connections, and hear from experts.  By joining MAC you become a member of this community, receive discounts on MAC meetings, have access to the member directory, and receive a discount on Animal Sheltering magazine.  For more information on MAC, visit About Us.

MAC general meetings are held at least four times a year, on Saturdays or Sundays. Future meetings are listed in the "Events" section of the MAC website.  MAC meetings promote vigorous discussion and positive interactions on a variety of topics. We frequently feature invited guests or members to speak on specific topics. Previous presentations have included Robert Perry from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation speaking about grant writing, Kim Saunders from Petfinder.com, Sheila O'Brien from National Education for Assistance Dog Services, Carter Luke discussing MSPCA's MA Companion Animal Population Study, Dr. Amy Marder presenting her work in behavioral assessment of shelter dogs, to name a few.

Meetings also provide an opportunity for members to update the group on the progress of individual task forces. Members (and guests) may present a problem or concern in order to generate input from colleagues, furthering the collaborative model on which MAC was founded.

What are the costs of meetings for the current year?

Type of Membership Meeting Cost
Affiliate of an organizational member $20
Individual member $30
Non-member or guest $40
Student with an ID $20

Non-members can attend meetings.  For more information about meetings, click here.

What types of memberships does MAC offer?

MAC has two types of membership, as described below. All members are required to pay annual dues and shall be willing to commit to support the mission, projects, and activities of MAC. Voting members in good standing shall be granted the right to vote, hold office, and serve on task forces and committees.

Organizational memberships are based on the size of your group. An organizational membership allows your affiliates to join MAC and attend workshops/programs at a reduced rate. Your organization's web address will also be featured on the MAC website.

ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

In addition to your organization's members being able to go to programs at a reduced rate, all members of your organizatrion (and not your organization itself) get to vote for Directors, hold office, etc.

Membership Type Organization Size Dues

Medium organization 11-20 staff/volunteers $150
Large organization 20+ staff/volunteers $250

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS are available at one level (if your organization is a member, you do not need an individual membership, as you fall under the organization's membership):

Membership Type Organizational component Dues

OTHER TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS

MAC also has some Honorary Members, which are elected by the board of directors and are exempt from paying annual dues. Honorary members have all the rights and privileges of an active member, but shall not have the right to vote or hold office.

Guests are not members but are encouraged to attend general membership meetings to learn more about MAC and consider becoming a member.

I have some other questions about MAC membership!

Do I have to be an animal care professional to become a member?
No. If you are not an animal care professional, we can still use your help! You don't need lots of experience - the only requirement is that you care about helping our animal friends.

Do I have to become a member to help MAC?
No. MAC welcomes guests, who can participate in meetings and task forces, but do not have voting privileges.

If you can't attend meetings, we are always searching for volunteers to help out behind the scenes. Please contact us for more information regarding the various volunteer opportunities that are available.

I am already a member. Where can I find the member information form?
The MAC Membership Directory is available for use and updates to members only on the MAC Yahoogroup.  Contact Heather Donnelly for more information.

How do I contact MAC?
By email: info@massanimalcoalition.org or by phone: 978.779.9880 (message line).  You can also contact the MAC Membership Chair, Heather Donnelly at HDonnelly@mspca.org, with any questions specifically about membership.
